Recently, Folsom Ready Mix hosted a tour of our Roseville Plant and Quality Control Lab to students from Sacramento City College and Burbank High School. This informational tour was coordinated by Folsom Ready Mix’s Quality Control Department all in the spirit of educating and promoting the ready-mix industry. Our goal was to introduce students to the concrete business while offering a description of careers and engineering fields applicable to the industry.
Students were given a presentation on the breakdown of concrete and its constituents, its usages and designs, the process from R&D and concrete standards. They were then led on a walking tour of the Roseville plant where we described processes to them. We performed a trial batch for them while explaining batching standards and demonstrating testing procedures. We also performed a compression test and demonstrated psi calculation for the students. We wrapped up our day with a drawing contest that had to relate to what students had learned or saw during the event.
We were happy to be able to offer a learning experience to interested students about what we do here at Folsom Ready Mix every day. Connecting with our community and the next generation of the concrete industry is a great way for us to share our knowledge and expertise. Below is a gallery of photos from the tour for those interested in taking a look!
