For those unfamiliar, we would love to introduce a terrific organization called Blessings in a Backpack. This organization is currently feeding students from five different elementary schools in the Rancho Cordova area and they are working on adding two additional schools in Folsom as they continue to grow. What are they doing specifically? They are sending home breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks every Friday for students who may not otherwise have gotten another meal until Monday.

From Blessings in a Backpack:

Kids should worry about being kids and not where their next meal is coming from. Sadly hundreds of our children right here in Rancho Cordova have to wonder if that lunch they’re eating on Friday is their last meal until they return to school on Monday. We are a nonprofit working to end the 60+ hours some children go without food. The kids receive free breakfast and lunch every day of the school year but what about the weekends? That’s where Blessings in a Backpack steps in. We send home 6 meals and 2 snacks each Friday to help combat a child from going hungry.

Donations from the community allow Blessings in a Backpack to buy food for these children and to continue sending it home with them for the weekend.

They have partnered with another terrific organization: Friends of Folsom to raise money, collect food and be sure that these children are fed.

A little about Friends of Folsom:

Eight years ago, a group of friends, families and businesses, now known as Friends of Folsom, began participating in the Sacramento County Food Bank Annual Turkey Drive. The first year, the donation was 200 turkeys. Since that year we have joined hands with more and more small businesses, vendors, customers, members of the community as well as their families and friends to feed over 10,000 families over the last 8 years.

We were very proud to participate in their recent charity golf outing on June 1st to raise money for such an amazing cause. We participated by sponsoring a hole as well as a foursome. This was their third annual event at Mather Golf Course. We encourage all local businesses to look into how they can give back as well. Here’s how you can help as well.

It was our pleasure to sponsor such a great event!
