After nearly four years of major construction, the new Mosquito Road Bridge in Placerville, California is officially open. For Folsom Ready Mix, the ribbon cutting marked the completion of a project our team has been proud to support since the very beginning. Our first concrete placement took place on October 21, 2022, beginning years of work alongside Shimmick Construction on a technically demanding project that would ultimately transform an important connection for the local community.
From a One-Lane Bridge to a New Community Connection
The Mosquito Road Bridge project represents a significant change for the Swansboro area. What began with the limitations of the former one-lane bridge has become a modern connection designed to better serve the people who live, work and travel in the area.
That impact was evident at the bridge's opening, where local and state representatives, emergency services personnel, members of the community and a member of a seventh-generation local family gathered to mark the occasion.
For residents, the completed bridge means more than easier travel. It also provides improved access for emergency services serving the Swansboro community, an especially important benefit when responding to emergencies and disasters.
Nearly Four Years of Teamwork
Large infrastructure projects require consistency and coordination over long periods of time. From that first placement in October 2022 through the project's completion, Folsom Ready Mix worked with Shimmick Construction to provide ready-mix concrete service throughout construction.
Behind every delivery was a much larger team. Our Quality Control, Operations and Dispatch teams worked alongside our drivers throughout the project to help keep concrete production and delivery moving as the work progressed. Their commitment over nearly four years made Folsom Ready Mix's role in this project possible.
We also want to recognize the residents who lived with the impacts of such a significant construction project. Thank you to the community for its patience throughout the process.
There are projects that stand out long after the final placement. Seeing the completed Mosquito Road Bridge open to the community, knowing where the project started and understanding what this new connection will mean for the people who depend on it makes this one of them.
We're proud of the work, but "proud" doesn't quite capture it. We're honored that Folsom Ready Mix and our team had the opportunity to contribute to a project that will serve this community for years to come.
Congratulations to Shimmick Construction, the project partners and everyone involved in bringing the new Mosquito Road Bridge from its first placements to opening day. On to the next one!
