The Mosquito Road Bridge Project is one of the most ambitious and technically challenging infrastructure projects currently underway in Northern California. Located in El Dorado County northeast of Placerville, the project will replace the aging Mosquito Road Bridge with a modern structure designed to improve safety, reliability, emergency access, and long-term transportation connectivity for the communities of Swansboro and Placerville.
Working alongside Shimmick Construction, Folsom Ready Mix has supplied ready mix concrete throughout multiple phases of the project, supporting everything from foundation work and massive bridge footings to towering support piers and the bridge deck itself. The project's remote location, steep terrain, and complex construction sequencing have required careful coordination between engineering, construction, quality control, dispatch, and concrete delivery teams.
The new bridge spans approximately 1,200 feet across the South Fork American River gorge and rises nearly 400 feet above the canyon floor, making it one of the most significant bridge projects in the region. Construction includes two primary support piers exceeding 230 feet in height, extensive retaining wall systems, deep foundation elements, and a balanced cantilever bridge design engineered to withstand the unique demands of the site.
One of the project's earliest milestones involved the successful completion of the massive footing pours supporting the bridge's primary towers. These foundation elements required approximately 1,100 cubic yards of concrete and represented months of planning, coordination, and execution. As construction advanced, Folsom Ready Mix continued supplying specialized structural concrete for the bridge piers and other critical components designed to deliver long-term strength, durability, and performance.
More recently, the project entered another major phase as deck pours officially began, bringing the bridge closer to completion. This work demanded precise timing, consistent concrete quality, and seamless coordination between field crews, dispatch personnel, drivers, and quality control staff. The successful progression from foundations to vertical structures and ultimately deck construction demonstrates the collaborative effort required to deliver a project of this scale.
For Folsom Ready Mix, the Mosquito Road Bridge Project represents the type of large-scale infrastructure work that showcases the value of dependable ready mix concrete, experienced personnel, and strong partnerships with contractors and project teams. From major bridge construction and public works projects to commercial developments and utility infrastructure, Folsom Ready Mix is proud to help build the structures that keep Northern California communities connected for generations to come.
