The University of Nevada, Reno Mathewson Gateway Project is a landmark campus development that created a new connection between the historic university campus and downtown Reno.

As part of the Folsom Ready Mix family of companies, Silver Strike Concrete supplied concrete for this major institutional project, supporting the construction of a five-story, 128,000-square-foot facility that now serves as the new home for the University of Nevada, Reno College of Business.

The project included specialized concrete requirements, including high-performance 8,000 PSI concrete for critical structural elements. The mix was designed to achieve early strength, allowing contractors to remove forms and move to the next floor more efficiently during construction.

In total, Silver Strike Concrete supplied 9,300 cubic yards of specialized concrete for the project, including lightweight concrete systems for elevated floor construction. The project also incorporated sustainability priorities, including supplementary cementitious materials, Environmental Product Declarations, and LEED Gold certification objectives.

The Mathewson Gateway Project was later recognized with an American Concrete Institute Award in the Mid-Rise Structures category, highlighting the technical performance, coordination, and quality involved in the project.

For Folsom Ready Mix, this project reflects the strength of its broader ready mix network and the company’s ability to support complex commercial, institutional, and infrastructure work across Northern California and Northern Nevada.
